Scary System...
As all the Angry are aware, we here have had a long-standing problem with MTA -- management and service. Been made aware of another side of subway horror, though, recently. Did you know that YTD there have been 40 struck person incidents? I imagine that only a small fraction of them have been non-lethal. How about this--eight train hit deaths in April and it's only the 7th day of the month! What the hell is going on??? I am informed the system has never been more ominous and unpredictable. The random jumpers, the fatal risks taken, the passenger pushers, an inexperienced supervisory cadre that can't cope because they don't have the depth or tenures of their predecessors. The work environment has become oppressive for the line operators. Progressive discipline never allows a worker to emerge from the cloud of having made a mistake long ago; they must pay repeatedly in terms of suspensions and lost vacation days. That's illegal. The motto for the working guy underground is, "you're guilty til proven guilty"! This economy and its attendant MAJOR STRESS is certainly pushing some people over the edge, the platform edge, that is. Leave it to Angry to boil it all down: Corporate indifference and profit-above-all-else mentality wrecked the financial matrix, and is also nuking morale and capability in this town's transit system. Oh, yeah. Make sure you load your MetroCard with the new $2.50 fares that you refuse to protest against. I'm clear til next time!
